We gather here today, in the presence of God and friends to recognize and renew the marriage vows that ___________and __________Have originally taken on this ______ anniversary. We come to ask God’s blessing on their marriage as we look to the future.

Today, you reaffirm your commitment to each other as beloveds and partners in marriage. May you continue to strive to be sensitive to each other’s needs, to be open and understanding with each other, to share your thoughts, your feelings, and your experiences with each other. Today, you renew your promise to try always to bring out the qualities of forgiveness, compassion, and integrity in yourselves and in each other.

Commitment:

_____________ and _____________ marriage has certain qualities of contract, in which two people take on the housekeeping tasks of living together, to enhance life’s joy. However, marriage is more than a contract. Marriage is commitment to take that joy deep, deeper than happiness, deep into the discovery of who you most truly are. And thus marriage is even deeper than commitment. It is a covenant that says: I love you. I trust you. I will be here for you when you are hurting, and when I am hurting, I will not leave.

You have been granted the most honorable title, which may exist between man and woman – the title of “husband” and “wife”. Before you take your vows please exchange this gift of a single rose to symbolize your love for one another.

______________________ and ______________________ in every marriage there are times where it is difficult to find the right words. It is easier to hurt who we most love. It is easiest to be hurt by whom we most love.

It might be difficult to sometime find the words to say “I am sorry” or “I forgive you”, “I need you” or “I am hurting”.  If this should happen,  if you simply cannot find these words, leave a rose at that spot which both of you have selected –That rose says the words “I still love you”. The other should accept this rose for the words, which cannot be found, and remember the love and hope you both share today.
